A New Standard in Reporting and Data Analysis

1. Introduction to Data Views

  • What are Data Views?
Data Views is a cutting-edge reporting system designed to deliver fast, flexible, and detailed insights into your affiliate platform’s data. Developed over a year, it introduces a whole new way to access and analyze data that was previously unavailable, enabling smarter and quicker decision-making.

  • Why the Change?
Traditional reporting systems lacked the flexibility and speed required for in-depth analysis. Data Views is powered by BigQuery’s cube structure, allowing real-time data aggregation and seamless interaction with vast datasets, even across extended time ranges.

  • Key Benefits:

    • Speed: Reports are generated instantly, no matter the dataset size.

    • Flexibility: Filter, customize, and drill down into data like never before.

    • Comprehensiveness: Access dimensions and metrics (e.g., creative paths, categories) previously unavailable.

    • Actionability: Easily share insights via export or API.

2. How Data Views Work

  • Technology Overview:
Data Views leverages a cube structure built on BigQuery. This structure aggregates data dynamically, making it possible to deliver granular reports at lightning speed.

  • Key Features:

    • Dynamic filtering and pinning of dimensions like advertiser ID.

    • Adding or removing columns for personalized reporting.

    • Granularity adjustments (e.g., daily, monthly views).

    • Export options including CSV files and API integrations.

  • Data Logic:
Data is pulled from core system sources (e.g., clicks, conversions, creative performance) and structured into predefined and customizable views. The system handles complex calculations, such as tracking anomalies or attribution metrics, without slowing performance.

3. Navigating the Interface

  • Overview of the Interface:

    • Main Dashboard: Access predefined reports such as creative performance or tracking details.

    • Filters: Apply pin filters (e.g., advertiser-specific views) to focus on relevant data.

      • click on a value you would like to filter. Then select Filter by this value

      • click on a column name you would like to have as a filter on top. Select Pin Filter

        image-20241125-141552.png

    • Customization Tools: Add, remove, or reorder columns.

      • on the top right, hover over the name of the report. You will be able to select some options, including to “Edit Columns”

        image-20241125-141808.png

      • now add the columns you need or remove the ones you do not need (anymore). The data is in different data sets. So you may want to use the search bar for quicker access.

        image-20241125-141238.png

      • If you select the tab “order” you can

        • change the order of columns

        • rename columns

          image-20241125-141329.png

      • remember to click on “preview the changes”

      • Be aware: If you hit Save changes you will save changes and change the data view (for all users).

  • Step-by-Step Navigation:

    1. Open the Data Views tab from the main dashboard.

    2. Choose a predefined report or create a custom one.

    3. Use filters and column tools to tailor the view to your needs.

    4. Save the report or mark it as a favorite for quick access.

4. Available Data Views (Models)

  • Creative Set Performance by Partner: Understand how specific creatives and partners contribute to conversions.

  • Tracking Detail Overview: Monitor the health of your tracking setup, identify missing attributes (e.g., click IDs), and detect anomalies.

  • Untracked Conversion Report: Diagnose why conversions weren’t tracked (e.g., missing conversion ID or duplicate entries).

  • Granularity and Metrics: Each model supports flexible granularity (daily, monthly) and a variety of metrics like partner performance, category details, and attribution data.

5. Creating Custom Data Views

  • Custom Reports:

    1. Add new columns from the available fields (e.g., category, creative set path).

    2. Remove unnecessary columns to declutter your view.

    3. Reorder columns to prioritize key metrics.

  • Best Practices:

    • Start with predefined reports to familiarize yourself with available data.

    • Gradually explore and add new dimensions for a deeper analysis.

6. Sharing and Exporting Data Views

  • Sharing Options:

    • Mark reports as favorites for team access.

    • Share with defined users or teams within the system.

  • Exporting:

    • Export as CSV for offline analysis or reporting.

    • Generate API links for automated data integration with external systems.

  • Dynamic Time Ranges: Time-based filters update automatically in exports or API calls, ensuring your reports remain relevant.

7. Use Cases and Examples

  • Example 1: Filtering Performance by Advertiser

    • Select “Creative Set Performance.”

    • Apply a pin filter to view data for a specific advertiser.

    • Adjust the granularity to monthly for a long-term overview.

  • Example 2: Diagnosing Untracked Conversions

    • Open the “Untracked Conversion Report.”

    • Identify reasons for missing conversions (e.g., duplicate entries).

    • Export the data for investigation and resolution.

8. Future Developments

  • Upcoming features include:

    • Period comparison tools for year-over-year analysis.

    • Enhanced models with richer data dimensions.

    • New functionalities like anomaly detection and deeper tracking integration.

9. Summary and Next Steps

  • Data Views is the future of reporting on the platform, delivering unparalleled speed, flexibility, and insights. Users are encouraged to explore the new interface, experiment with customizations, and provide feedback to help refine the system further.
