End an advertiser program

Deleting or deactivating an advertiser?

As we have seen in the article on the advertiser’s properties, you can either deactivate an advertiser temporarily or delete it permanently. If you delete an advertiser, the tracking tags are disabled permanently. Therefore, please delete the advertiser only if you are sure you will never generate conversions for the advertiser via your platform again. Deactivating the advertiser will allow you to restart the advertiser program relatively easily.

Please note that even if you delete an advertiser, you will be able to find back its program settings, reports and conversions. This is done in order to keep your platform completely transparant: you will be able to retreive the advertiser’s data at any given moment.

Checklist

Ending an advertiser program is a delicate process. Please make sure you go through all of the following steps before you actually deactivate or delete an advertiser program:

  • Use the newsletter tool to inform your partners on the date on which the advertiser program will end.

  • Check whether the proper traffic redirection policy is in place in the advertiser tracking settings.

  • As soon as you reach your deadline, go to the main advertiser properties and set the visibility of the advertiser to ‘phase out’. If you do this, partners can no longer apply for the program and they will see no new traffic and conversions in their partner UI and their automated reporting exports. You will be able to check whether traffic and conversions are still coming in and warn your partners.

  • Make sure all conversions generated for the advertisers are validated. Any conversions after the end date can be cancelled.

  • Create payment entries for all confirmed conversions generated for the advertiser and make sure all partners who generated conversions for the adverters program are paid.

When you are sure no conversions are being generated anymore, go to the main advertiser properties and set the status of the advertiser to ‘deactivated’ or ‘deleted’. If you delete an advertiser it is recommended to remove the on-page and the conversion tags from the advertiser’s website as well.
